We may have a lot of problems at home -- and we do -- but our brothers and sisters are out there for us tonight.  We lost eight just today.  Four soldiers were killed in Iraq, and four in Afghanistan.

  So much goes unnoticed. No wonder Vietnam era vets referred to back home as The World. Thanks to Long War for this today: "Japan will pay Afghan National Police salaries for the next half year. New Zealand extended its deployment of 140 soldiers by one year."

  I would have been happier had the President said: "The United States will punish those individuals who torture people and we will end all abiguity on what constitutes torture. Those concepts were blurred over the previous years and opened the door to abuses that resulted in isolated but inappropriate treatment of people in our control. The rules will be clear and punshment for transgressions severe.

  I think the US needs to abstain from the physical abuse of prisoners. I realize that the reality of close action on the battlefield makes this a challenge.
  However, once removed from the "heat of the moment" there are actually much more efffective methods than physical torture to get information from prisoners. Physical torture is for people either dumber than the prisoners, or sadists. Neither should have prisoners in their custody.

  No torture, Ok then summary execution for taking up arm against us is fine with me. Don't take prisoners then there won't be any torture, and think how much we would save in upkeep (transportation, prison, food, bed, lawyers), just a hole to dig. And as a bonus shorter wars!
  
  Question: Nuclear bombs hidden in Washington, New York and Los Angelus. Prisoner withholds information on where and when. What do you do? Me: Move to Texas after I dig a hole! (If I am in Washington, New York and Los Angelus I donƒ??t bother with the hole)

  I think our president still fall short in not reforming the VA health care system in this country. Our soldiers deserve the best we can offer no matter where the vet lives not just in DC.

  Michael,
  You said you were glad there will be no more torture last week then alluded that US soilders are guilty of "wholesale torture" today. Either continue to give the Huffington Post and the America Haters more fodder or supply us with examples and proof of your first hand knowledge!
