Beautiful Combat Camera on Auction

The Canon Mark III 1ds is one of the finest cameras in the world.  Mine has seen combat in Iraq, Afghanistan, and has been used around the world from Nepal, to the Philippines and elsewhere.  The photos from this Mark III 1ds have appeared in my two most recent books, and countless other places.

These bodies still go for about $7,000 brand new.  Though this body has seen much combat, the camera is in perfect operating condition.  This fantastic machine is rugged.  It has photographed al Qaeda, Taliban and US and British forces in two wars, and come back ready for more.  It has photographed some of the thought-shapers of this generation, such as General Petraeus, and also Sherpas near Mt. Everest, and former guerrillas in the Philippines.

It is with heavy heart that I want to sell this camera to buy two more cameras.  In 2012, Canon will introduce a newer model with fewer megapixels, but it should work better in low light.  If I decide to cover the Mexico issue, low light shooting will be of great value.  The total price of the two new cameras, along with GPS and an IR modification to one, will be about $15,000.

I am in hopes that a buyer will see the potential historical value of this camera, and the great value in bringing two new workhorses in the stable.  And so with that in mind, I am starting the bidding at $10,000.

Thank you for your consideration.

Michael

Would LOVE to be able to buy it but sadly I need a camera that functions in low light as well! Good luck!

Wish I could afford this camera and would rather have it than that dumb "5 Presidents Signature" for Wounded Warriors that Bill O'Rielly is auctioning for Wounded Warriors. Your camera is much more historical and patriotic. Get Bill to help you.

Don't have this kind of coin, Michael, although I am a diehard Canon user, myself, and would love to own it, just for the camera, itself, but have certainly put in a plug for your auction. Keep up the great work.

I don't have the $$$ to buy such a camera and most won't, I am sure. What I DO have is a facebook account (which cost me nothing) and even a few friends who check it from time to time. I have posted the following on my facebook page. I urge others who follow Mr. Yon to do Likewise if they can't buy the camera themselves.

    -------------
Michael Yon is a totally legitimate combat photographer who put me in touch with U.S. Military contacts in Mosul, Iraq when I had to have such contacts in order to ship refrigerated chemotherapy drugs to Mosul where the drugs were sorely needed.

I owe Michael Yon a favor, as do quite a few cancer patients in Mosul.

Michael is selling one of his cameras in order to buy other equipment. It's a great camera, AND it has additional "collector value" because of the history behind it. I can't buy it myself but I want to help Mr. Yon.

I urge anyone who reads this to RE-POST on their facebook account, and to check out Michael Yon and the camera he is selling on eBay.

Good luck selling the Camera. I am a Nikonian--ever since Vietnam.----The lenses I bought in Vietnam still fit my Nikon D7000.

Glad to see you have made the decision to cover the Mexican Issue. Would love to have you at my place for dinner and tell you how the Regan-Kennedy Amnesty turned my neighborhood in Encinitas California into the "wild west!" That is what happens when laws are passed without funding to enforce the laws...

SoCal is a hot bed for the Mexican Cartels. Yes we have a fence and everyone acts like there is not a problem here, but like the Mafia of old, the Mexican Mafias want nice clean neighborhoods for their families. Business has gone legit. And where there is big money their is corruption. For those enforcing the law, how would you respond to a "cash or bullet" offer. It is not just a joke that they call us "Mexifornia."

Want to know what is going on. Ask a Landscape Contractor. That is what I am.

...what would really make the camera valuable would be a collection of the RAW images it captured, along with the camera.
Reasonable to restrict the rights to view only or view and print for personal use only.

We know, from your description all the things that the camera captured, for the dollars, it'd be nice to have the digital evidence to support the assertion later. (Historical providence.)

Can I simply just say what a comfort to uncover someone that really knows what they're discussing on the internet.
You actually know how to bring an issue to light
and make it important. More people must read this
and understand this side of the story. It's surprising you aren't more popular
given that you surely have the gift.
